Have I ever written about the story of waffles and labor with Maxson? I think I've not so I will do so now because it's funny.
At some point during my labor with Maxson, during the 2 hours I was pushing, Casey decided he was hungry. He must have mentioned that out loud or something because the nurse said "well you better order soon before the breakfast kitchen closes." So amidst my incredibly strenuous, tiring bouts of pushing, Casey asks me "Babe, do you want waffles or pancakes?" In my overly exhausted state of mind my thoughts are "WAFFLES! OF COURSE I WANT WAFFLES! WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME THAT STUPID QUESTION WHILE I'M PUSHING A BABY OUT OF MY BODY?! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT I PREFER WAFFLES OVER PANCAKES AND YOU DARE ASK ME RIGHT NOW!?" But all I could snap at him was a very irritated
"Do you think I care about that right now?!"
He ordered me pancakes.
Now I personally love this story because I think it's hilarious that Casey was trying to be considerate in asking me what I would prefer for breakfast but also incredibly awful timing to ask such question while I'm exhausted in the middle of pushing during labor. I laugh at the thoughts in my head and how I could not get them out but in reality I did have a very strong opinion but it was not worth my energy to share it. And I laugh that in the end he ordered me the wrong thing.

our trip to utah and the specialness of provo
after our trip in wyoming we drove down a couple more hours to utah to watch my niece and nephew for a few days while my brother and his wife were out of town for business stuff. we were able to sneak off a couple times to provo to try out some fun things. overall we just really loved our time there. taking care of 3 kids is hard but having incredible weather the whole time sure helped. we went to the park everyday with them if not twice a day. it was so refreshing to sit in the cool shade, perfect temperature, soft grass with no bugs, watching the children run and jump and slide and be so happy. it truly felt amazing.
here's a few of the pictures from my phone.
a. maxson slept the whole time from wyoming to utah, **tender mercy**
b. that first sight of those beautiful utah mountains was breathtaking. holy moly do we miss the mountains so very much.
c. we met up with our good friends, the sigety's, for a little hang out and lunch. it was the best. they make us laugh so hard. their little boy is adorable and towers over maxson at the mere age of 2 1/2.
d. a trip to BYU!!!!

a.-d. feeding the ducks at the duck pond at BYU. maxson was thoroughly impressed by the ducks and was super eager to throw them food (after his experience with the fish). he threw ginormous pieces at the ducks though, they were probably sick after we left. (j-dawgs gave us whole bag of squished bread, so nice)
a.&b. tried out sodalicious. definitely approve. we both highly recommend the boy scout. casey went back 3 times during our trip. i also tried their sugar cookie which was equally delicious
c. finally tried out slab pizza. hoy hannah was it YUMMY! i got some potato, rosemary, bacon goodness and wow it was good. casey got the buffalo chicken (surprise surprise). he liked his a ton too

c. tried out swig. another soda place. their soda was sober carbonated but still good casey said. their sugar cookie was extremely yummy though.
d. and awful waffle! dang those crepes are so goo, lincoln needs to get on the breakfast train. abby got a waffle and loved it. we also picked up pizzas from sixth street pizzeria (2 businesses within one store) again, extremely amazing. i got the margherita and casey the buffalo chicken.

a really cool jump house in the upstairs of brother's house.
brick oven pizza.
watching abby at her horse riding lesson.
a movie every night with casey.
me napping every day while the kids napped.
and here is a random list if things casey and i discussed that makes provo so special.
- it is totally normal to be driving/walking around and see people dressed up in white shirts or nice dresses at any moment in the day. you don't think twice about it. anywhere else you do a double take and say, "are those missionaries!!!!???"
- the mountains are gorgeous. holy heck. after living 2 years on flat land nebraska i can officially say the mountains in the utah valley are breathtaking and awe inspiring. even casey appreciated their majestic-ness
- all the amazing places to eat. holy heck. it's like a food gold mine in provo, so many awesome places, new ones constantly starting all in a pretty close radius to each other so it's not that big of deal to drive to them. wow there are seriously so many awesome new yummies around.
- speaking of yummies (this has nothing to do with the making provo so special part) but soda/sweet shops/breakfast treats places have completely taken over the scene of frozen yogurt
- everywhere we drove you could spot someone pushing around a stroller. made me feel like i belonged!
- there's so much energy in the city. a l l d a y l o n g. there's constantly people walking places, biking places, working out/running places, entertaining kids places. the energy never stops, it's incredible
- the gorgeous weather. no humidity is LOVELY. we hit this peak period in the year where it's pretty warm by late day (75-80) but cools off real nicely in the evenings to 40/50's. it's lovely to be outside nearly all times of the day
- the flowers everywhere. even crappy houses have made an effort to put flowers somewhere outside their home and it adds to the beautiful scenery everywhere.
-BYU. the specialness of BYU is probably only special to alumni but man oh man. walking around that campus you can't help but grin ear to ear. so many good memories it makes me want to cry. don't get me started on that bookstore. as a student i was always like "who buys all this BYU junk?" and now when i come back i'm think "casey, we need to buy ALL these wonderful BYU things!"
-church buildings everywhere. and not only church buildings, but ones with cars in the parking lots constantly. brings a smile to my face when i see that.
it's funny we were SO immersed in BYU the 4 years we were there, completely devoted our whole selves to the scene, people and lifestyle that after those 4 years we were SOO ready to be done with provo ready for something new. and now that we're gone, going back is SO fun and SO special and we miss it SO much. we definitely took advantage of it all while we lived there but oh man how we miss it. BYU friends, soak it in.

banana, sweet potato, carrots, and peaches.
so right there around 5 months,
we decided little maxson was ready to try a few solids here and there!
we started with just a few spoonfuls of rice cereal, he wasn't too enthralled with it.
but a few days later while i was eating a banana he kept grabbing at it,
trying to put it in his mouth (like he does with everything else:)
at first i pulled the banana further from him,
but then i thought "wait, i kinda want him to eat solids"
so after he stuck the banana peel in his mouth and sucked on it for a few seconds i thought,
heck, why not!
i broke a piece off my banana,
mashed it up nice and good,
plopped maxson in the bumbo,
put a bib on and we went for it!
he practically loved from the get go.
it was fun feeding him the exact food i was eating myself.
i just really liked it.
i'd love to make my own baby food but i'm just not sure it's in the cards for us, we'll see.
since then i've introduce a new something every few days.
he didn't blink twice at sweet potato or carrot (well actually he'd make a sour face at first like "what's this?" with the first 2 bites but then he was fine after that)
we just tried peaches though and he wasn't as thoroughly entertained.
took him quite a few spoonfuls to enjoy it.
i have to hold both his hands with mine while i feed him unless i want his fingers all up on the spoon and in his mouth getting nice and messy,
that's pretty cute.

solids are a fun new adventure, for sure.
but it's also kinda a hassle, ha!
it (already) takes a bunch of time,
his mouth is quite the moving target,
i have to remember to actually feed him stuff other than just nursing,
and did i say it take a bit of time?
but it's fun and we all are loving it :)

one last post about our easter
i forgot there was more,
my bad...
cutler tradition is meeting the saturday before easter with all the cousins around logan utah, roasting hot dogs, having s'mores, going on easter egg hunts, eating more food and having fun together.
while out here in nebraska by our lone selves, we continued the tradition the best we could:
grilled up some hot dogs

made smores on the stove
by the way- we found these flat marshmallows designed for s'mores which made eating it so easy.
i don't know how easy they would be to actually roast over a fire but they work AWESOME inside the graham cracker.

we chose cookies 'n cream hershey bar (hello? with our love affair with oreos, we had to)
and they may have been my favorite s'more i've had to date.
although once we ran out of the that hershey bar we substituted nutella and OH.MY.GOODNESS.
do that sometime, people. JUST DO IT.

as seen above, maxson was pretty worn out from all the food eating...
i promise this is my last easter post :)
and guess who's coming in town tonight?

i could not be more THRILLED!!!!

life lately
here's a little update on life through our iphones aka when i'm too lazy to take my camera out/places or too self conscious to take it out in front of others...
it's one of those two.
and i'm sorry if you follow me on instagram, many of these are just duplicates...
let's begin with the least flattering pictures from casey's phone:
a. first time spending time outside in the sunshine!!!!
b. another sunshine day, we didn't have a sun hat for max so a kitchen towel had to do
c. maxson miraculously fell back to sleep for casey while he worked out, lucky dog that, never happens
d. entertaining babies during conference=less conference listened to, luckily we can re-read/listen to them online!

b. my ultra cute, smiley, and round nephew, britton during his 1st year birthday cake fest!
we got to video chat with him during some of it and he went to town.
that boy LOVES food and was just soooo happy!
my brother sent a video of when they first placed the cake in front of him.
he picked it up one handed like a sandwhich and starting chomping away like a boss, so funny!
oooh we miss our nieces and nephews too much

after coming inside, maxson just sat in the sling, cuddling up to my chest watching whatever i was putting away.
such a sweetie we have on our hands.

does anyone recognize that blanket?!
it's the jean blanket i slaved over last summer!
although the edges are not yet finished, it works like a beaut outside and we're so eager to put some wear and tear into it over the next years as a family.

a. b. c. conference breakfast with friends.
although pancakes, french toast, or waffles are an excellent breakfast.
someone sadly has to slave over the stove top the whole time and you can't all eat at the same time and you have to keep waiting for more!
so breakfast casseroles it was!
i made a frenchtoast casserole the night before (recipe below)
and my friend made what we call a lumberjack casserole like this one.
they were oober yummy
d. maxson's first general conference watching our prophet, president thomas s. monson!

last essentials.
last night we had our final "what else do we need for this baby" shopping trip.
other than actual baby/post pregnancy essentials,
we picked up ourselves "look we had a baby!" treats.
casey's choices: beef jerky, licorice, zebra cakes, fruit gushers
kimber's choices: pirouette's, gatorade, kit kat bars
together choices: blue berry muffin tops, chocolate covered granola bars, orbit gum
we figured you only have a first baby once so why not celebrate (with treats {don't judge our treat choices})!
we also picked up a frozen oreo pie for a happy 3 years to us and happy pre-baby.
it's pretty dang yummy if i do say so myself.

goodbye january, hello february!
oh my heck!
can you believe january is gone and february has come?!?!
we were walking to school yesterday, and were gawking over the fact that we've FINISHED 1 month of our last semester already!
wowza.
this is my last ode to january 2012 in provo, ut.
(cue 1 tear trickling down face).
1. 1st ski trips of the season: some awesome days (remarkably with what little snow there is) and some terrible ones (not surprisingly, again, cue large goose egg bruise on both knees from sheets of pebbled ice)
2. finished my 1st project in sewing class: pajama pants!! (mom, aren't you proud!?). sewing class is awesome.
3. lots of toast with butter, sliced avocado, all sprinkled with a little salt: yummo.
4. the first time we ever cooked salmon
5. Meli dog. you only feed my need of wanting my own dog. thanks for being the best dog ever. don't ever die.
6. seeing tristan, lots. love that cute boy.
6. seeing tristan, lots. love that cute boy.
7. cousin/friend get together at Suz's.
8. mission friend get together where we all were laughing for hours straight. great group of boys, and a great group of girls those guys picked
(tim and kelly, yay for moving back to utah!
andy and kylie, flipping funny stories.
brock and emily, you two are perfect, get married, k?).
usually when you get together with other couples it's bc the wife thinks they would be a fun couple and the husband agrees.
usually the wives end up being great friends and easy to talk to and sometimes the husbands just don't mesh.
where in this situation, the guys brought everyone together and had all these happy memories with one another, and the girls just fit (like most girls always do).
twas great.
8 peeps around our small table is THE MAX, but it works!
9. little snow.
10. tons of cheap blueberries. ate those suckers like candy
11. watching debates, lots of them, GO MITT!!!!!
12. relief society super saturday which included a crepe class from the awful waffle woman herself!
what february will bring us:
1. casey's birthday!
2. valentine's day
3. cousin sleepover
4. snowshoeing
5. more skiing
6. game nights
7. the last month of scott and megan in utah :(
8. leap day!!!

cookies.
1. tristan is ridiculously adorable.
2. we finally got some good snow in provo, yay!
3. COOKIES.
4. we bought ourselves bowling shoes for our anniversary. yayyyyyyy.
did you know i love chocolate chip cookies?
i LOVE chocolate chip cookies.
if i could only have one dessert the rest of myself, it'd be chocolate chip cookies.
i don't make them very often anymore because i totally gorge myself on them.
literally, i make myself sick because i eat so many.
but anywho, here's some of my basic tips and tricks for cookies!
my long time go-to recipe has been the nestle toll house recipe.
always stellar.
(i do often add just a little bit more flour than what it calls for, maybe an 1/8th of a cup for 1 batch).
when ever it says butter, always use crisco, the yellow baking crisco.
it makes all the difference.
semi-sweet is the popular choice for cookies.
but, milk chocolate chips are EVEN BETTER.
try it.
lately i've been using cookie recipes that use vanilla pudding powder as an ingredient.
super yummy!
again, try it.
last sunday we made 2 new cookie recipes.
here's my verdict:
1. pretty normal. nothing overly amazing about it. i had to add like 1/3-1/2 c more flour to make it more fluffy and once i did that it was much better.
i'd make this recipe again but not next time.
2. surprise ingredient: cornstarch. turned out incredibly yummy, i'd say. fluffy and chewy. very much enjoyed. we liked this one so much and will for sure be trying this one again!

provo utah bucket list: sammy's burgers and BYU planetarium
yet again, we have crossed off TWO more bucket list items!
we had quite the eventful night last saturday!
1st on the list: sammy's burgers.
it's a small burger shop in provo at about center and 100 west near the marriot hotel.
we've driven by it plenty of times and said to ourselves: "we need to go there!"
they're have also been plenty of people rave how incredible the pieshakes and burgers are.
off we went and brought scott, megan and tristan in tow.
let me tell ya, that place is as yummy as it is cracked up to be:
huge, delicious burgers,
the yummiest fried ever,
and such an awesome vibe.
we had to skip out on the shakes because we were so full from the burgers and fries,
so we will undoubtedly be back again soon for more.
i can't remember what casey got,
but i ate the aussie burger: fried pineapple, grilled egg, with all the other normal stuff.
loved it.
another tip: get the battered fries: ooooober yummy.
apparently casey and i both got a little picture crazy at this place,
it just had so much fun character for such a small place!

after dinner we drove like speed demons up to campus and literally RAN to the eyring science center for the planetarium show!
we had heard the first night in december was the special "star of bethlehem show" and were excited.
our excitedness quickly disappeared as we began to fall asleep during a LECTURE!
yes, that's all it was, a lecture!!!
i'll admit, it wa kinda cool listening to the professor reason through what could have possibly caused the bright star in the sky...
after the show, we learned that this indeed was a "special" show, it was the only lecture show,
jeeze.
we'll be going back again next semester for a legit, cool star show indeed with all the affects and stuff

after the show ended we walked over to the JSB and began waiting in line for divine comedy,
yes, we love divine comedy.
they never disappoint and are SO CLEVER!
at the end of each show, our mouth always hurts from laughing smiling so much!
here's their new music video this semester "good" instead of "bad" by MJ :)
we were lucky to have met up with 2 other couples there too.
and there was our friday night!

provo utah bucket list: provo bakery
we passed off antoher bucket list item!
going on over to the infamous provo bakery,
we've heard people rave over it, but we've never actually gone, gasp!
as i turned the corner to see our front door, i saw casey in the process of bringing my new bike into the house!
woot woot! we actually got a bike and another big something while in montana (no taxes, yeahya!) and luckily casey's grandparent's were in montana with us and would be driving back down to utah with their mini van, yay :)
as i walked up, joy spread through my whole body and now i knew what little kids felt like at christmas!
i threw by backpack and coat in the door and started riding that baby around!!!
casey hopped on his and we just decided to ride down the street.
the closer we got to center i thought, "hey let's go to the provo bakery, we're right here!"
so, we found it and just stopped!
we got ourselves a HUGE, christmasey, sprinkle one to split,
and enjoyed it in the cold outside sitting at the bus stop (the bus stopped for us, ha).
we will most definietly be going there again soon!
that doughnut was so perfect :)
*update*
i think i'm going to get rid of this cute bike that i'm in love with :(
i just think i'd really like one that changes speeds...
we'll see what happens!

thanksgiving recap.
we had the most wonderful thanksgiving in montana with some of casey's family,
it was seriously so much fun!
the food was completely wonderful,
we had 4 cooks in the kitchen, which was so nice,
and we all ate til we had stomach aches, it was a love-hate relationship.
but the leftovers were so wonderful for the next 3 days.
oh yummmmmm.
catherine, got cute leaves all ready and we all wrote what we were thankful for on them, hung them on the fire place, then our wonderful reader, kyle, read them aloud to us all and we guessed who it was.
so cute and so fun!
one night we went to a little skating place and had a ball with each other!
even grandpa, nearly 80 years old, got out there on roller skates and skated around with us,
what a hoot!
helping the little kids around the rink made it that much more fun too!
it was such a fun thanksgiving with so many little ones around,
i'm so happy that that's what all our future family gatherings will be like,
lots of little ones all around!
they loved casey, of course and his phone
one of the days, lance, an uncle, organized for us all to go riding on some quads together!
we even brought all the kids to ride too!
because it was wonderful montana, we got to bring all the little ones on the quads with us.
even though, it was bitterly freezing near the end, it was absolutely splendid.
we were so happy we got to be in montana this year, and it was so worth the drive!
this definitely won't be the last thanksgiving we have with this family!
other random activites:
painting LOTS of nails,
cutting out snowflakes,
having the little ones catch bugs for my friends insect collection,
playing games,
watching football,
looking at ALL the themes christmas trees at malinda's house,
lots of laughter :)
can't wait til next year!

texas caviar
i would love to share our family favorite recipe of texas caviar with you!
(i'm also inclined to do this bc often when i'm away from home and i want to make this, i don't have the recipe, but now it'll be on the blog where i can always get to it!)
i got this from my mom,
who got it from our neighbor,
who probably got it from someone above her too!
it's a woodruff family favorite.
it's eaten/made at nearly all of our family functions:
christmas, reunions, the dunes, weddings, etc.
you name it, it's most likely been there.
if the family is together, someone wants it to be made.
it's a bean/salsa/mix of veggie dip thing that's super yummy!

Chop the
following and mix together:
2 cloves garlic
2 cups tomatoes (about 5)
1 green pepper
5-6 green onions (1
bundle)
2 jalapenos
Add:
1 can white shoepeg corn
(drained)
1 can mexicorn (drained)
2 cans blackeyed peas
with jalapenos(rinsed and drained)
these cans are hard to find, if you can't find them, get 1 can black eyes peas and another bean can, black or kidney

Add:
8 oz. zesty Italian salad
dressing
Cilantro to taste.
1 packet of powdered
Italian dressing
Serve with
chips, quesadillas, or on top of rice.
I think it tastes better the 2nd
day, and it will juice up a bit itself when sitting after awhile, so don't add too much of the Italian dressing, I usually use half the bottle and add however much powdered Italian dressing i think it needs

cutler clan in indiana: round 4
just a few more left overs about the cutlers here in indy!
we had an oreo taste testing contesting bc we're awesome like that.
we were all blind folded and the cookies were distributed.
on a scale 1-5 (5 being a yummy "oreo" 1 being nasty) we rated each.
looking at the 4 packages we all mostly rated them the same
(from left to right)" 1, 2, 4, 5.
great value put up a good competition compared to oreo but the cookies wasn't as soft.
oreo was the winner!
see people, they ARE worth that extra 50 cents.
i also made homemade oreos which were quite popular if i do say so myself!

cutler clan in indiana: round 3
the 3rd of july (a precursor to the 4th).
yeah, the ones with the really legit brick oven in their own backyard.
yet again, they surpassed all our wildest dreams and we had the most delicious dinner ever.
this night will literally go on my top 10 favorite food nights of my life.
monique (the aunt) has the most wonderful pizza dough recipe.
toppings galore were provided by all.
incredible fruit punch/lemonade.
the yummiest dessert EVER by camille (this dessert is practically tied with my love for oreos and that's saying something).
as well as an incredible smores bar.
otter pops a plenty were to be found too!
i think we made a total of 7-8 pizzas, all different, all cooked in the brick oven, and all fabulous.
we had vegie, meat lover, hawaiin, stuffed crust, bbq chicken, cheese, tomato, and probably a few others i can't remember.
i had 3 slices i wanted:
1. the first pizza, whatever it was that came out of that oven i wanted, bc hello, it was fast sunday
2. hawaiin. i don't think there's anything yummier than (fresh) pineapple on a pizza.
that one was stuffed crust and incredible
3. the one with tomatoes. last time the one with fresh tomatoes atop was my favorite and i just had to go for it again!
i knew i wanted to save room for these specific 3,
the hardest part was restraining myself from eating the other pizzas before the ones i wanted were made!
casey's faves were the bbq chicken, stuffed crust, and meat lover.
in his words: real man's pizza.
see otter pops below?
i'm going to guesstimate that anywhere between 20-30 were consumed by about 6 people.
they have really cool birds too that sing songs.
i love them.
at the end of the night we did a few fireworks!
their boys were the most perfect peeps to be around bc they all loved lighting everything off so much.
many of the group entertained me and were kind enough to do silly written things together.
it had just stormed before we went out so the parentals let the boys do nearly anything since there was no chance of fire.
it was seriously such a blast!!!
yet again, happy 4th of july,
i love that holiday so so much!
we are so blessed to live in such a wonderful country.
god truly has blessed the USA!
ps- the smores bar?
imagine this:
graham crackers, lemon cookies, those one cookes with chocolat already on them,
marshmallow flavorss: regular, coconut, chocolate swirl, mint.
chocolate: regular hershey's, mr good bar, cookies 'n cream hersheys, reeses.
yeah, this woman is a genius when it comes to smores.
cooking them in the brick oven is beyond awesome.
