take me out to the ball game (to die of heatstroke, get sunburned, and complain of the humidity)

last week we got to go to one of the college world series baseball games and it was so much fun! i love baseball games. they're so relaxed. they're so american. and they're so summer. as my blog post title says, it was flipping hot. it was super humid, and we almost got sunburnt except for the fact that we sprayed sunscreen on our selves (especially the sunny side of us) like 3 times during the game. but the weather could have been so much worse (i can't believe i'm saying that but it's probably true). here's how the evening went down:

general admission tickets (bleachers seats that miraculously have backs to them), don't get sold until the day of the game, and we heard they go fast. so we got there 1 1/2 hours early to buy our ticket and get a seat. casey looked for parking online before the game and saw that most everything was $8-$10 to park except for 2 free lots designated ADA parking where you have to show your card and he thought "great! i have my ADA card (American Dental Association) and we'll get great parking. we find the lot, the parking guy says you have to have a pass for this lot and casey says "isn't this ADA parking? i'll show you my card" so he shows them our card and they let us in and we think we've scored the jack pot because it is right next to the stadium where as people had been walking from way far away to get to the stadium. i remember saying to casey "man, that dental tuition, is paying itself off! yay for you being an ADA member!" *jump forward to after the game when we're pulling out of the parking lot i see a sign that says ADA parking with a handicap sign underneath…i'm guessing it was the American Disability Act parking thing, ha! but they never specified that before! we innocently did believe we were in the right place with casey's ADA card. we thought it was funny

we get into the game an hour early find seats and continue to roast for the following 2 hours in the sun it seemed like. although maxson wouldn't sit for long (we never expected him to do such) we took turns going up to the walkway opening where it was shaded and breezy to let him run and walk around as he pleased. i think doing that was what made the gem more bearable weather wise. casey made it feel like a super special occasion when he bought not one but two ice cold lemonades, oh man they were heavenly. and then near the end of the game we bought a big ol thing of popcorn in hopes that max would stay put for awhile eating it, ha, which he did. max loved to clap with excitement when the audience did so, casey also showed him the pitchers warming up in the bullpen right in front of us which he liked. maxson also loved mingling with all the strangers around us, sharing food, taking their food, and waving bye bye to them, he was a charmer for sure.

going to this college world series game was definitely a once in a life time thing. college sports atmospheres are so much fun and the players are really so talented. such a fun evening with my little family!

ironic that casey is wearing an LA dodgers hat (the area he grew up in) and myself a D-backs hat (my home area)

a softball game where i almost died from the heat/sun/humidity

Last weekend was our stake softball tournament for our church and it lasted all day long! Literally, we got to the fields at 8 am for our first game and left at 5 pm. It was a bit too long for my liking but still fun nonetheless. We played our first 3 games, and won them all. We found a shady spot to eat the hot dog lunch they provided (with watermelon, nachos, and cookies) with our big old group, had an additional hour break from games and played 2 more games, the last being the championship game and winning the whole thing, go us!

It was so darn hot though. The whole time from lunch and beyond it was just hot hot and more HOT. As adults, we were hot but we just had to deal with it, on the other hand Maxson was hot and I felt so bad. We worked our bums of to keep him sun-screened up, hat on, sucking on cold water and in the shade as much as possible. He survived to say the least. The game before the last one I kept saying "let's just lose so we can go home!" I'm such a sour wart sometimes. My teammates did not agree with my decision and we won. And then during the championship game I kept saying "Just let them win so we can go home!" Again, our team put in all their effort and we were actually stellar and won!

This year we also had enough women there that we could play which made it way nicer. There had to be 5 women on the field and we usually had 6 there if not 7 a couple times. But even with all of us there every time it was our time to go out on the field, the men would constantly say "ok, we need 3 more girls, come on!" If it was my choice, I'd play out field a couple of times and be good watching, but I felt like I had to play every time, ha. Friends who didn't go on the field helped watch Maxson which was kind of them. Casey was a rockstar the whole game, catching balls left and right making great plays, I was super impressed with his softball skills. I really shouldn't have been surprised, Casey's really good at all things sports related except golf.

Overall it was a really fun day, playing as a team with some members of your ward family. A setting like that really brings out the camaraderie and fun in people, so glad we got to be there and be apart of the WIN!

see my cute pregnant friend in the middle? we switched places this year of being pregnant vs playing.
by the end of the day i wished I was the one pregnant and not having to play ha.

I told casey that the plethora of BYU shirts everywhere made me feel very nostalgic at our years at BYU.
but alas, Nebrasaka paraphernalia was everywhere (like on me...)

cornhusker football

so 2 weekends ago casey and i headed out to a nebraska football game!
firstly, it was a totally different experience than from BYU football.
details first.
pictures second.

casey has season tickets.
the first 2 games he sold his ticket because either we were gone in AZ or i had just gotten back from AZ.
so this was his first too!

tailgating around here seems to be a much bigger deal than the game itself.
EVERYONE tailgates.
pretty much the whole city is rented out for different tailgates, it's insane.

EVERYONE is in red.
it's an absolute sea of red.
we went with another couple in our ward and were constantly losing them because they just blended into the sea of red.
we wore our wheres waldo shirts because i didn't have a red shirt that fit and i convinced casey to match me.

there's an itty bitty student section, and then a GINORMO everyone else section.
nebraska football is truly the main event of the whole state.

30 minutes before the game started the stadium was PACKED,
i was amazed.
we sat with a large section of dental students.
everyone stood for such a long time,
even the non student/expensive seat section.
i however withstood the peer pressure to stand for very long due to the super hot sun (the whole time) and being large with child.
the student section did stand the whole game (even after it was super boring after the first quarter).

on all nebraska kick offs, everyone takes off their shoe and puts it in the air...strange but cool.
their mascot is really weird.

i felt like a poser/wannabe trying to join all their chants, i just couldn't get into it as well as i didn't know it at all.

we left at half time (sadly) because they were beating the other team so bad, the sun was too dang hot, and casey had an elder's quorum video game night activity to attend.

overall, i'm glad i got to go.
it was way fun and an eye opening experience to football.
go huskers.
(the picture of us together below was like 15 minutes before the game started, do you see how PACKED it is?!)

i have much more fun watching the games at home and feel better about cheering them on in my own living room than with real fans in a stadium.

cougar football on the other hand...even if they're losing i'm still pumped for all the plays :)
go cougars.

baseball and baby bumps.

so technically, it was softball.
but last weekend the stake had a coed softball tournament.
casey was super pumped for it.
(let's be honest, anything sports, casey is pumped for.
still can't believe i married someone who's so in love with sports).
so, the tournament.
they won 1, lost 1, and the other team forfeited 1 (but they still played a practice game during the hour).
it rained during 1 1/2 games.
rain is so annoying when watching a game.
luckily it did not rain during lunch.
the brilliant woman in charge of lunch organized only hot dogs to be served.
it was A MILLION times easier for the set up and options.
seriously, so wise.
i tried watching a few kids during the games while their parents played.
they pretty much all got hurt on the bleachers at some point but whatevs...
the people from the ward who did come play were awesome and made it tons of fun.
can't wait til next year when i can play!
i use the term play very loosely because i will in actuality be little to no help to the team plus we'll have a 9 month old not to watch...
(that sentence seems SO CRAZY!!!!!)
we shall see.

and to top it off, here i was that day.
26 weeks plus a few.
(i feel like i've been in the 20's FOREVER)
white maternity shirt- courtesy of goodwill. i love those scrunched side shirts, they're my favorite. i have 1 :(
red nebraska cornhusker sweat pants- courtesy of nebraska
blue BYU flip flops- courtesy of where my true love to football will forever live.
(i think the 2nd pic i'm looking at the children across the street, but it was the most in focus picture of the batch...)

can you spy a belly button that is beginning to pop out?
i need to remember to tuck my bum under during pictures because i feel like it makes me look way bigger than i am.
i just am trying to remember to tell myself i'm grateful i do look pregnant and not just like i always eat big lunches.
plus, i'm short, i have no where to hide this boy.

kicking has yet again exponentially increased this week.
if my computer is resting slightly on my stomach he can kick it major so it jerks.
kicks have been so forceful lately!
sometimes it really hurts!

we got a crib this week, YAY!
now just to set it up.
it's fun slowly getting little baby things over time.
gives me moments of great excitement!
now i just need my majillion dollar rocking chair, right, casey!?

and sidenote-
casey has officially finished his first week of dental school, yahoo!
he comes home for lunch everyday for an hour (which i love).
he got to play practice with a drill twice last week.
he's been overloaded with anatomy class.
everybody continues to tell him how terrible the first year is, how fun :)

provo utah bucket list: go to 1 game of every BYU sports

another bucket list item, yayyyyyyyyyy
we have SIX more to accomplish after this!
i don't know if we'll get them all done but it sure has been fun!

so although we didn't quite make it to one game of EVERY sports game at BYU,
we did enough, i think, to cross it off our list.

BYU football
and lastly, BYU volleyball
Photobucket
after casey's LAST organic chemistry final on saturday we ran over to the volleyball game at the smith field house.

wow, was that place packed with energy.
seriously, the crowd went wild over everything, it was so fun!
and you could tell the players had TONS of fun playing and worked as such a great team together.
supporting each other when they were awesome or not so awesome.
they beat penn state 3-0.

i wish we had gone to more volleyball games, it was seriously a blast.

granted, there were about3 other little sports games we didn't get to go to (tennis, gymnastics, track, we'd gone to a soccer and rugby one before), but these were our top ones we wanted to go to, so, i'd say we're good :)

there's something about just sitting back with friends and watching a good ol' american ballgame.
the 7th inning stretch came around and we sang our hearts out to take me out to the ballgame in our loudest voices possible.
good times, good times.

and after the game they had a firework show!
i love fireworks so much!
they are so incredible to watch, hear, and feel (you know, when they boom super loud:)
it made me so excited for the 4th of July!

good company and a good ballgame.
a friday well spent.

ps- they won :)

soupa bowl sunday

so growing up...i don't really remember much about "super bowl sunday"
my dad and brothers aren't really into sports so it wasn't that big of a deal.
sometimes it'd be on in the background, but it didn't mean anything.
but now that i'm married to sports lover casey d cutler,
those things have changed.
we watch sports a lot at our house
so for the super bowl this year we gathered with a few of casey's grandparents and cousins.
and in the end, we didn't really watch much at all!
we ate a yummy dinner, visited a lot, played games, and just laughed.
we had so much fun together not watching the game!
kimber, casey, fran, grandpa, becca (fran's daughter) amy, rachelle, emma ruth, helen, conrad
and fyi the girl from the last post is in this picture (well half her face is in every picture), she's still beautiful :)
casey and i watched some of the commercials later that night and i thought many were a hoot!

a byu win!

cougars finally had a good game, and during homecoming weekend!
we were so happy they won and played well too!
casey's dad came with us as usual and we also finally had exceptional seats,
10th row in the random student section thank you very much
the weather was beautiful, thankfully
players also wore bright pink tape, socks, rags, chin straps, Y's, and other random things to support breast cancer awareness. it was so fun to see them all with it on!
if you blow up the 2nd pic and look close you can see some of the bright pink
and, before the game casey and his dad went out to get some lunch like always.
1st game was J-Dawgs
2nd game was Costa Vida
3rd game was simply Panda Express :)
oh the traditions

football.

yes, football season has started for all
college.
professional.
fantasy.
intramural.
all are an aspect of our home right now

college football:
BYU football! not like there's really that much to happy about it about though, poor cougars
but we still watch, support, and cheer for the boys!

professional football:
casey keeps track of it for his fantasy team which leads to

fantasy football:
he's obsessed. it's annoying

intramural football:
casey has had 2 intramural games so far and they've been great!
they have won both so that's good for all of us :)
he's on a team combined of missions comps and other people's random friends
above is some of the team.
they decided to be super cool and wear legit jerseys.
they like it, ha
and it just so happened that when we were in wyoming a few weeks ago, the cutlers happened to have a university of wyoming jersey that says cutler! so casey uses that! love it :)
i'm amazed at the beauty of this place, how gorgeous is the scenery just around the intramural field?
we feel so lucky and blessed to be here in provo together these few years.
and this last pic was from today's game:
casey got a hard hit on his face! hopefully it doesn't turn into a black eye
who thought flag football could get so physical?

love my 'backs

soooooooo, we're in arizona like i mentioned before!
yayyy!
my dad was fortunate to get ahold of someone's d-backs' season tickets from a friend of his and we got to go the game with them! yay!
so much fun!

resons why the d-backs rock:
1. they have an indoor stadium (better name= BOB- short for bank one ballpark. now it's lamo chase field

2. they have yummy d-back dogs

3. they have an awesome-cool-sweet pool at the field. i would pee my pants if i ever got the chance to watch a game in that pool

reasons why the b-backs don't rock
1. their colors got changed to lamo red-white-black. boo. purple and emerald were so much cooler

2. they lost the game we watched, but pretty much won all the other nights
we loved singing "take me out to the ballgame"
we liked just chilling there together and talking
we like our seats
we liked the homeruns (all 1 that came from us)
umm, yeah, that pretty much sums it up

go 'backs :)
