BYU-Utah game

We had quite the fun family evening watching the BYU-Utah game together! The boys chanted BYU during it. threw the football back and forth to us, Max learned to catch the ball while running. We all got to eat yummy popcorn in the family room, did some fun screaming and yelling at the game. So proud of BYU and then again so mad at them. 

BYU vs Nebraska aka the most intensely awesome game ever

We have looked forward to this game for THREE years now! Ever since we got into Nebraska 3 years ago we knew they were scheduled to play each other in Nebraska and we were stoked for it. Each year leading up we said "oh it will be so fun our senior year when BYU comes to play!" "in just a couple years BYU will be here to play" "NEXT year BYU will be here to play!" and then we FINALLY WENT TO THE GAME!

 You guys it was as epically awesome as you can imagine if you were watching it on TV. To be the teeny tiny minority in that stadium up red and WIN THE GAME ON THE FINAL SECOND!? It was unreal!

Let's start from the beginning.

Casey's parents came into town for the game WOOP WOOP! We loved having an excuse to get them to come out to see us and we even got lucky and Karlee joined along for the ride even though she didn't get a ticket for the game. It was so much stinking fun.

It was hot as Hades that day. So humid. So hot. So many people. Luckily there was slight cloud coverage during the first half and a good breeze the entire game that kept us alive. But still, oh man, it was so flipping hot.

That is the WORST stadium for traffic flow of getting people in the gate and to their seats. We waited forever in the hottest most humid tunnel packed like sardines trying to get from underneath to the top section of our stadium seats. Never will I ever again. But, on the topic of the stadium, that stadium is impressive with its sheer size and NEVER ENDING OCEAN of red (see picture below!). I never knew the power of an intimidating team/home town advantage until I was the visiting team in the Husker stadium. Oh my heck. Lavell Edwards stadium/fans definitely have something to learn from that once IN the stadium.

People keep asking if BYU had a good turn out. I'm not really sure how to answer that. See all this red? There were those two sections of blue across from us and our section that was blue and then of course some blue sprinkled through out but overall RED everywhere.  Nebraska loves their football, it's their thing. So of a stadium of 89, 595 there was 2000-4000?

The game ws pretty awesome overall. Lots of highs and lows for both teams which is truly the way it should be. It was an EXCITING game! There was no clear winner the whole time. They were ahead, we were ahead, they were ahead, we were close, they got further away, WE CAUGHT UP AND WON. It was amazing! AMAZING!!!

We were in a little visitors section at the very top of the Northeast section surrounded by BYU fans (actually the people behind us was a little row of Nebraska fans and that was so totally annoying, oh well). We became friends with the older couples sitting in front of us, they were very fun to talk to throughout it.

 I tried to take a picture of our BYU section, I looked to the right (picture below) and it was a ton of blue Y's to be seen. I looked to the left (picture above) and it was a bunch of red, ha

It was just oh SO great to be cheering on those BYU cougars once more in person at a football game. Singing that BYU fight song with gusto and passion and happiness wearing that cougar blue and Y's on hats. A few times during the game I wanted to cry thinking about how much fun and how awesome those 4 years at BYU were, those were 4 fast amazing fun filled years that I would do over in a heart beat. Motherhood and life now is amazing and so fun, don't get me wrong and I wouldn't currently change my situation (ok, I would have a fenced in backyard at least) but those 4 years at BYU were something else, something so special only a BYU alum can tell you about. The spirit of the Y truly does exist in hearts all around the nation! Now back to the game…

 I read the BYU Magazine during half time. Loved the article on the cougarettes vs the rugby team.

I felt like such a rude fan whooping and hollering out of the stadium while 99% of the other people walking around me were feeling the exact opposite emotion. I wasn't trying to rub it in their face I was just GENUINELY STOKED TO BE THERE IN PERSON ROOTING FOR THEM COUGARS AND SEEING THAT HAIL MARY PLAY IN LIVE ACTION AND WIN THE GAME. Man oh man. Talk about a game to remember!

That evening we were able to talk our good friend Quin Kimball into coming to our house for dinner! Quin, his dad and brother came to the game from Texas. Quin Kimball is whom our little Quinn is named after! Such a great guy, sure missed that wife of his!

The day after was a fun one too at church asking others about the game and excitement from the previous day's activities. Who they were cheering for, where they were sitting. It was also like a mini family reunion in our ward with previous members visiting and lots of current members' families visiting because of the game.

It was seriously just a great weekend!

Man alive how I LOVE Brigham Young University. I LOVE (the beginning of) football season. And I love when those two mix!

Yesterday I asked the sister missionaries to come over to my house and help me with some deep (and not so deep) cleaning. Oh man, was I ever so grateful for them! A bunch of the little things I've wanted clean got done thanks to their help, they were such a blessing! You should have seen my huge to do list and they crossed off every single one, loved them!!! Beyond that, I'm actually having tons of contractions but hopefully that doesn't mean much!

a. Helping make popcorn

b. & c. We blew up the bounce house in the basement one day, it was hilarious. Good news, it will work for the winter down there!

d. Grocery shopping with dad leads to donuts at the store...

a. Came in to get Maxson from a nap one afternoon and found him like this…pulling the curtains open is his new favorite thing.

c. Apparently he knows what to do with a video game controller and the headphones…I wasn't amused nearly as much as Casey (cue head shaking)

b. The tractor museum- so STOKED to get on one finally. He's obsessed with tractors.

c. Flat Stanley (more on him later) visited the tractor museum with us and CORN FIELDS!

a. The pull out bed was a hit for a good half hour

c. Found Maxson after a nap with a shirt he had pulled out from his dirty clothes around his waist…really funny sight

d. Fell asleep on the way to the grocery store, but the show had to go on. That 30 pounds of dead weight was probably much cuter to look at than to hold

a. One morning when Max woke up WAYYYYYY too early, I was desperate and let him watch Frozen on the iPad. You guys, I need my sleep these days ha.

b. Baby!

c. Hanging out in the car. He loved this activity. Always insisting on turning on the DVD player but it never works, I don't know why he continues to try, ha.

d. Watching Max and Casey play outside while I tried to nap.

a.-c. Cake and ice cream at a neighbor's birthday party

d. Getting ready for the babies!

a-b. Casey's on an intramural football team with a bunch of LDS dental and Law students, they all really enjoy it. They've only lost 1 game- the one all the wives came to watch, ha. It's funny because the whole team is much closer to their 30's and most the people they play are about 20, I just think it's funny

c. Proud wife and son even after a losing game (I did see his touchdown!)

d. Maxson was great at eating their post game snacks one of the wives brought, capri sons and cookies!!!

a. So my niece sent me Flat Stanley in them mail. They read a book about how Flat Stanley was squished by a bulletin board so his family would mail him to places he wanted to visit. So she mailed him to me and I showed him around Lincoln!

b. He went to the dental school and got a check up

c. He went to lots of playgrounds because Lincoln has the most amount of City parks/playgrounds in one city of the whole US

d. We were sad when we had to mail him back!

cornhusker football

so 2 weekends ago casey and i headed out to a nebraska football game!

firstly, it was a totally different experience than from BYU football.

casey has season tickets.

the first 2 games he sold his ticket because either we were gone in AZ or i had just gotten back from AZ.

so this was his first too!

tailgating around here seems to be a much bigger deal than the game itself.

EVERYONE tailgates.

pretty much the whole city is rented out for different tailgates, it's insane.

EVERYONE is in red.

it's an absolute sea of red.

we went with another couple in our ward and were constantly losing them because they just blended into the sea of red.

we wore our wheres waldo shirts because i didn't have a red shirt that fit and i convinced casey to match me.

there's an itty bitty student section, and then a GINORMO everyone else section.

nebraska football is truly the main event of the whole state.

30 minutes before the game started the stadium was PACKED,

i was amazed.
we sat with a large section of dental students.

everyone stood for such a long time,

even the non student/expensive seat section.

i however withstood the peer pressure to stand for very long due to the super hot sun (the whole time) and being large with child.
the student section did stand the whole game (even after it was super boring after the first quarter).

on all nebraska kick offs, everyone takes off their shoe and puts it in the air...strange but cool.

their mascot is really weird.

i felt like a poser/wannabe trying to join all their chants, i just couldn't get into it as well as i didn't know it at all.

we left at half time (sadly) because they were beating the other team so bad, the sun was too dang hot, and casey had an elder's quorum video game night activity to attend.

overall, i'm glad i got to go.

it was way fun and an eye opening experience to football.

i have much more fun watching the games at home and feel better about cheering them on in my own living room than with real fans in a stadium.

cougar football on the other hand...even if they're losing i'm still pumped for all the plays :)

the boys of fall.

if you know my husband at all, 

you'd know that football means a lot to him.

as you've noticed we go to all the BYU fooball games and love it.

he loves playing football,

talking football,

watching football,

reminiscing about football,

fantasy(ing) football,

everything football.

it's fun to hear him talk about his days back in football.

the team, the games, the championship, the experience, etc.

he genuinely loved it.

as we were listening to the radio in the other day, kenny chesney's new song "the boys of fall" came on.

i could tell how much he truly missed those days.

bright lights, friday nights, and all.

we looked back at the words and they just fit so perfectly with casey:

there's no doubt in my mind that our little boys will be out there playing football and throwing a ball around.

i want to see those little boys in BYU jerseys running around when they're 4.

i'm kinda excited for those days. 

so here's to football and my husband.

i'm learning to love the first a little bit more because i love the second so much. 

it's game day

it's friday, friday...

but really, we're are so happy it's friday!

today's friday means gameday:

wahoo!

we're trying to celebrate games days in the cutler household by making everything better/more fun that day.

example:

cougar pancakes.

we've also decided that we will never have normal looking pancakes again.

they must always have at least food coloring, sprinkles, or awesome shapes added to them.

yay for pancakes.
especially cougar pancakes!

this coming weekend includes:
listening to a prophet's voice.
my brother coming into town with a special friend.
meeting that special friend.
sibling dinner.
drive up the canyon.
working (boo).
cleaning the car,
homemade kettle popcorn.
cinnamon rolls and/or lion house rolls (thank you bread machine!)
workin' on the puzzle.
relaxin.

yay for general conference weekends!
