why sit when you can stand

this is what my work life looks like.

 

my back is having some serious problems these days.
sitting and laying straight on my back=PAIN.
the solution to working on a computer for your job:
place the keyboard on something tall, like your costco toilet paper,
raise the computer screen as high as it will go,
place a table on the chair so your laptop will be at eye level,
have a chair in front of the computer as a prop.

that's how college graduates get things done.


ps- only problem to this situation, when you need toilet paper your whole system falls apart...
i guess a box will have to do.

 

day 6 in new jersey

i feel like i have finally officially set up camp here in new jersey,

all food is bought.

all cleaning items are bought.

all random household items are bought.

we are beginning to get into a rhythm of how life will work around here for the summer.

we've been to church.

yes, i think we are setting ourselves in.

thank you one and all for your sweet comments on my first terribly traumatic day in NJ.

it is getting better.

i've just finally come to the realization of a few facts.

1. the roads will be stupid all summer, that's just how it is.

2. brigham young truly was inspired how he set up the utah road system.

3. if i get a ticket, it's alright, the tears will come easily and there will be no ticket.

4. it is alright to frantically yell at the other in order so they don't miss a turn.

5. always turn too early by mistake than too late.

so we live in a town called parsippany (par-sip-uh-nee).

it's full of indians :)

you run into foreign accents EVERYWHERE around here.

it's so fun.

and the names these guys are selling to have the funkiest last names, all of them.

there are mom and pop shops EVERYWHERE.

food/retail chains can be found but it feels even easier to find any small little place.

i think we kind of want to try lots of pizzeria around here and find the yummiest!

i called my mom on about the 2nd or third day here and told her how everything just felt so different.

the roads are different.

the names.

the walmart.

the people.

the prices.

the gas stations (all are full service!)

i almost feel like i've moved to foreign country (that speaks english).

FINALLY i went to COSTCO, and i felt home.

that place was THE EXACT same like the west.

the prices, the set up, everything.

i just love costco so much.

i should write them a letter to express my gratitude.

i might as well share the low down on our job out here,

i know i never have in the past, but i don't see why not.

we're doing summer sales pest control out here.

casey sells for terminix and goes out and finds customers everyday.

i'm the "office coordinator".

i set up all the appointments, organize paperwork, help with paying the guys, and am in constant contact with the local branch manager of terminix working out problems with accounts and technicians.

it's a pretty chill job but can also have lots of work sometimes.

i'm grateful for it though, it's flexible, it pays well, i help casey with his job, and i can still run the house (aka feed, shop, clean etc:)

casey is very good at his job to say the least.

it's very worth it to us to come out and sell during the summers.

it's not the most glamorous job but if you work really hard you can really do well financially.

so yes that's where we are, and yes, this is FOR SURE our last summer doing summer sales (hallelujiah).

what i've been doing lately,

organizing the house,

catching up and organizing all the office work/working out glitches,

listening to music,

listening to the presidents of the church lecture series, so fascinating,

editing pictures,

making food.

i sure wish i had a dog or cat out here, mmeh.

maybe you can see pictures next time :)

sooooooooooo

a little bit of life lately,

shall we?

1. when the cutler family came up for the farewell last weekend, they were able to come up a day early and go SKIING with us! yahooo! it was a blast with them. a little on the way cold side so only 1 picture that day. tay is rockin the whole snowboarding thing, and mom and dad c are excelente skiiers. lil karlee jo is still on the learning phase and let's just say skiing is not her most favorite thing in the world. the back mountain had some great snow and we just had fun being a family of skiiers/boarders that day!

1. we're on the ward's intramural intertube waterpolo team.
2. it's pretty dang sweet.
3. sewing class. everying feverishly working on samples and assignments. i love that class so much.

pepper spray round dos

my oh my!

i'm realizing there's quite a bit i'm needing/wanting to catch up on! goodness!

so...pepper spray training...

here's the low down:

casey was my moral support and "partner" in this (thankfully).

my heart was pounding leading up to it the closer it got!

i knew it was going to hurt but i knew i was going to do it bc everyone always does it!

i closed my eyes, covered 1 eye, and then they sprayed!

btw i wore that awesome turban/scarf on my head so it didn't get in my hair and make my eye/face hurt again in the shower

like casey did, immediately after it happened i hosed my face down with cold water to get as much of it off my face as possible but sadly enough it had already gotten in my eye and started burning! after the water, the best thing you can do is air out your eye til it feels better. although my eye felt back to normal after 15 min or so, my face did not! imagine thee worst sunburn in your life on half of your face...that's about what it felt like, burn baby burn! i looked like two face pretty much: half of my face pretty darn white and the other fire engine red! ha! but at least now casey and i can say we have been sprayed by pepper spray! why would you ever need/want to be able to say that...i'm clueless...but we can :)

why we made a pyramid...i don't know...a team united and bonded by mutual pain?

ps- this all took place in provo at the lds motion picture studio...who knew they had that in provo!? i didn't! it was way cool to see the place!

so remember how we're  both security guards at the HBLL now?

oh what's in a name

A LOT

a lot is in a little name!- even if it's only 3 letters (i.e. Bob:)

you know that book "how to win friends and influence people" by Carnegie?

he says that's a big step: knowing people's name!

everyone loves their name

everyone wants to hear their name

and it feels good when someone unexpected remembers your name (i.e.- our bishop from last semester?! amazing!)

i try.

but so many times i fail miserably.

but casey is good. i seriosuly don't know how he does it!

with our job we see a lot of people all the time,

let's be honest, pretty much everyone goes into the library at some point, and casey and i sit there and watch them (btw- please do not bring jamba juices or pizza etc- you cannot eat it. AND you can only eat in the snack zone, por favor y gracias :)

there's people i see and kinda know, sometimes i know their name, sometimes not.

there's even people i see and LOVE, most the time i know their name, but sometimes i don't!

i hate it!

why can't you remember their darn name kimber?

 

on another note, it's the 2nd day of school!

i am so glad i've reached the point where i literally am excited for my classes.

i love my major and want to learn more, the stuff is seriously so amazing!

casey on the other hand...organic chemistry and other mean/boring classes,

you can do it babe!

but we did get lucky enough to have our religion class together!

church history 1800-1830 from the infamous susan e black herself.

legend has it she wanted to retire a few years ago, an apostle called her up and said "the lord wants you to keep teaching" talk about pressure on not getting to retire, ha

but she's incredible! 

we are so fortunate to have LDS religion classes required in our education and have such amazing professors!

they are undoubtedly some of my most life changing classes

on 1 more note, casey and i did our first legit coupon shopping experience yesterday! so fun!

i'm so glad he does it with me b/c it's so much more fun together! it's like a treasure hunt!

should've spent $60, only spent $23 :)

got a few freebies, a few cheapies, and few just good prices on things we needed.

we were happy and pleased with ourselves!

Sacajawea Jump!

well they did it! 

they did the sacajawea jump for an incentive this summer and it was a hoot!

for those not accustomed to summer sales programs- the management does "incentives" all summer long (daily, weekly, monthly etc) to get the guys excited and motivated to sell. we had a bunch during the month of July, one of which was if the office services their best month they got to do Sacajawea Jump! the Sacajawea Jump is where they put a whole lot of quarters and Sacajawea coins in a pool and then, in utter chaos, everyone jumps in to get as much money as they can! pretty savage and funny :) in total this year the pool held $500 in quarters and $200 in Sacajawea coins! cerrrazy!

 

I was casey's number 1 fan on the edge of the pool (of course!:) and it was fun to watch him and be there, I had heard about it before but never gotten to see it!

 

  look really close! you can start to see the plethora of coins in the pool!

you would not believe how many coins it really is! the search went on forever! it did not help that it was a night time and there was like a 7 feet deep end! the deep end was where all the Sacajawea coins were so that's where casey went the whole time- that savage! ha!

casey was like a little kid on christmas day getting to finally get home and count it all!!

 

good news! work is ending a week earlier than we planned! YESSSSS!!!! (imagine that being said with the most enthusiasm ever, raising your arms in the air, head tilted back and screaming for joy!) can you tell we're excited?

 

Pepper Spray Training

So I felt like I had to give this post justice since Kimber was not able to come and watch my Pepper Spray Training. Note to everyone out there Pepper Spray hurts when it gets in your eyes!!! The shower afterwards was even worse because it was unexpected that I got the spray on my hair into both of my eyes. OUCH! We did this for my work at Library Security, who would have ever thought that this would be apart of my work, but to be able to carry around Pepper Spray we needed this training first. I am glad that I did it because it was worth the experience and now I can say I have been sprayed in my eyes with Pepper Spray. Here is some of the pictures and the video. Don't laugh too hard!

teehee, casey got a job as a security guard the other week,

so if you're in the HBLL (Harold B. Lee Library at BYU) and you're trying to steal a book, he'll come after you, so WATCH OUT!

he texted me the first day of work and said "i feel so legit!"

he loves that he has keys, a badge, a flashlight and all that fun stuff.

i think it's like playing dress up for a boy

i am now understanding the meaning of a man looking great in uniform:) haha
