winter, tears, and hugs

the other day i had a meltdown. i am done with winter. DONE. it's kinda killed a little piece of my soul this year, i think my mistake was not taking a trip to arizona in march, after that many months of winter my soul needs to be outside in the warmth. no warmth coupled with an active toddler, a small house, and very few indoor places to retreat to has done a number on me. don't worry i don't have depression and i've survived the winter and i've still gotten together with friends, i'm just so over the winter season.

so as i was on the floor like a blubbering bafoon crying my complaints out to casey, i saw maxson just stand there in the middle of the room staring at me, he was so confused at what i was doing. he slowly kept inching toward me, not taking his eyes off me. soon enough he was standing right in front me looking straight into my eyes with a kind of questionable face. he then slowly came into my lap and put his arms around my neck and held me/let me hold him while i cried, he pulled away and began touching the tears running down my face, this was all so new to him. he was so still anad calm and cuddly, so unlike middle of the day maxson. i think he sensed what to do since i had done the same to him so many times over the past 16 months.

it was a really sweet moment, sure i was temporarily unhappy with my situation, but it was just so sweet how maxson reacted to my sad moment. it made me go from feeling like a -2 to a 4. man i love that mr maxson of mine. (i can't forget casey in this situation though, maxson soothed my physical-emotional needs at the moment but casey soothed my mental-emotional needs. that man sure gets me through everything, he's the best husband.)

ON A MUCH HAPPIER NOTE. this weekend is general conference, it's been wonderful thus far!  2 times a year the prophet of the lord speaks to us and it's just so incredibly uplifting. watch with us on sunday at 10 am/2 pm MST, you can watch it live on lds.org!

a tale of one boot.

finding good looking boots for boys is hard. here a boy boot flaws:

1. they look like moon boots from the 80's and are hideous as yuck.
2. if they are decent looking they are $60
3. if a store does carry boy boots they are either the ugly woodsmen/construction-guy-light-brown-clunky boot or have camouflage all over it.

good looking boy boots are just HARD to come by reasonably priced. so whilst a little hunt over to goodwill in the town neighboring casey's home town in wyoming i spotted a miracle. this boot.

brand new looking. perfect maxson size to grow into. not completely hideous to my eyes. came apart on the sides for easy boot slipping on and off. sleek material, it was just perfect. AND kids boots were a whopping TWO dollars at this place!

PROBLEM.

there was only 1 boot to be found.

i looked high and low around all the shoe racks in the store to find it. alas i gave up. so i switched casey (he was in the car with a sleeping maxson) and casey went into the store for a good 25 min searching high and low for that boot. i just knew casey would be able to find the boot for me. he's just like that. he's so determined at little things like this i knew in the end he'd surprise me with it. he's just a brilliant searched for special things like that. the employees helped him search, they looked in the back of the store, they searched through misc bins, behind clothes racks, EVERYWHERE and could still not find it. one employee did tell me that there's a known shoe hider that comes into their store :( why would someone hide only 1 of the shoes? WHY????

after 45 min of searching high and low for that boot, we gave up. i was distraught (over a silly toddler boot).

it's over 12 hours later and i'm still devastated over that boot. Sure it's $25 on sale on land's end right now (orig $50) but i almost got it for $2! TWO DOLLARS!!!!

moral of the story: i really don't know what the moral of this story could be except something like don't hide 1 shoe at goodwill to make others miserable. either buy the shoes then and there or hide both shoes.

a change

someone has decided he does not want the binki.
someone has also decided he will not go to sleep without a binki.

blah.
what is a mother to do?

here's to hoping that this is because of teething and will soon end.

the plague of the bike thief

the bike thieving continues.
and we are not very happy about it

STORY:

when we got home from our summer vacation, casey's bike was stolen.
i was angry and casey was sad but forgiving.
woe was our loss.

the next night, our neighbor's bike 2 houses down was stolen.
that was not cool.
we were shocked he'd do it again in the same neighborhood.

1 week later after that neighbor had gone and bought a new bike, he came home for a quick lunch, just put his bike at the bike rack (that he had moved next to his front door) and while washing the dishes
CAUGHT A MAN IN THE ACT OF STEALING HIS BIKE!
talked to the guy, face to face.
he said he was just going to "borrow the bike a bring it back."
LIAR.
this was broad daylight, people, just 3 feet away from their back door with the window shades open.
who has the audacity!?!?!
then that night, the thief comes back and drops off the cut off lock from the guy's last stolen bike at his doorstep.
what does that even mean?

now 1 week later, we wake up to 2 more bikes being stolen: casey's other one and our neighbors.
that's 3 bikes from 1 bike rack in a matter of 2 weeks, 2 being ours.
and an addition 1 1/2 from our neighbor.
FOUR AND A HALF BIKES BEING STOLEN!!!!!

we are so mad and frustrated and irritated and annoyed and disgusted at this bike thief!
go away and just bring us back our bikes.
why does someone have to be so mean?
stop being a lazy mean person and go get a real job instead of stealing from others.

so so so so so mad right now.

luckily i take thousands of pictures and happened to find a couple that have those stolen bikes in the background to give the police more info on them.

moral of the story:
1. go take pictures of your bikes RIGHT NOW in case something happens to them.
2. go look at the bottom of you bike RIGHT NOW and write down the serial number of it, this helps the police tons
3. go buy a U-lock RIGHT NOW for your bike. the police say that your chances of your bike being stolen with one of these goes way way way way down because it's really difficult to get through them.
my bike was not stolen last night and i'm sure that's due to the U-lock we went out and bought for it this week.

fool me once shame on you.
fool me twice shame on me.

happy labor day to us :(

3 pokes

someone got his first round of shots...
and it was terribly sad.
 photo IMG_6589_zps0502ad41.jpg
he laid on the table while i held his little hands.
his whole body jumped at that first shot, he was so shocked!
i felt like i got poked in the arm about a majillion times when in the hospital so that unpleasant feeling is very close to my heart
and then there was the long silent mouth opening which lead very quickly to an unhappy baby.
the nurse was very quick which i was so grateful for.
i scooped him up into my arms as quick as i could to cuddle and console him.
he latched onto that paci so fast it's like there was milk in it!
and then for the next 5 minutes he continued with the sniffles.
you know those ones after you're done crying and taking short breaths up through your nose?
oh it was so tender.
