Working out post baby 2&3

I am officially on week 8 of Kayla Itsines workouts. Go me? Yes, indeed, go me. And I am oh so proud of myself. I've missed 2 days of her workouts (I was sick on one and we had just driven through the night on another) and maybe a handful of the cardio days.

If I don't exercise during the babies first nap of the day it's reeeeeeal hard to find a place for it otherwise. I have energy from breakfast still but I'm not too full (oatmeal for the win, I absolutely have CRASHED during my workout the days I only eat cereal), I can get the full workout done in 40 minutes if I start immediately after I put them down and then if they take a short nap I'm not frustrated with them not napping long, win win!

My workout time is Maxson's designated "media" time. For the most part this is the only time of day he gets to watch a movie (always requesting "go?!" aka Frozen, still trying to get him loving more manly movies). Once my workout is done I turn it off and we go make "moo-ee!" for ourselves-- smoothies. It's a good little pattern I feel like we have and I don't feel guilty because it's "media" time and then he doesn't interrupt me much during my workout and we're all much happier.

If any of you are interested in the Kayla Itsines workouts I'd highly recommend it for a few reasons:

1. 3 days a week you do her workouts. They take me 40 min from warm up to cool down.

2. Since the workout is just a pattern of exercises you follow for a designated amount of time you can easily stop real quick to help a child (or run to the bathroom) without feeling like you're missing "the workout" like a video.

3. The other 3 days a week you find some sort of other type of cardio workout. She recommends low intensity but I like feeling super tired after a workout so I usually do Insanity.

4. I love that my workout days always are switching around and I can play with it a little.

5. She definitely does a great job at targeting women's trouble areas which I appreciate

6. There's little to no equipment used. I pretty much get by with a chair and two 5 lb weights.

So, friends, if you're looking for something to do I highly suggest this one, I'm loving it so far! You can get a free 1 week trial here. If you do want to buy it, there's often 10-15% off codes around, just look around or ask me!

Picture of post workout courtesy of Maxson, see them sweaty armpits? Yip, it's that good!

PS- I am not doing the designated eating plan at this point, I have little to no self control/am not desperate enough for that yet, wait until I'm done nursing and then I'll tell you how I feel.

that one time casey and i actually were diligent at working out

this post is kinda old but should be documented nonetheless.

back at the beginning of march, casey and i decided to insanity.
(mostly it was me who wanted to do insanity and begged and pleaded casey to do it with me and then he came to like it/be glad he did it).
i was inspired by this post of a blog i read.
she too had a baby roughly the same age as mine which inspired me to say "yes, it IS possible!"

neither of us followed the diet plan because
a) neither of us have that kind of self control
b) i was too worried about losing my milk supply
we both probably could have gotten way better results if we had but we didn't care that much.

working out at home with a baby is DEFINITELY a challenge but DOABLE!
at first, we tried working out together in the afternoon right after i fed him so he'd be happy but he wasn't really that happy about it and it was always me who ended up not getting to do the full workout.
so then we tried doing it during his nap, but it was always a short nap which would cut the workout short which was frustrating too.
we finally decided to workout separately.
i'd do it in the morning during his first nap which was usually long at that time, if he did wake up early he was usually content with watching me for the last 5-15 min while still swaddled in his carseat/bouncer.
sometimes the last 5 minutes had to be skipped but nothing too bad.
after school casey would come home and do it by himself.
because we both decided to be dedicated for 2 months to working out, we were actually able to finish to the end!

insanity is pure cardio,
it's a beast, but then you realize how strong you've gotten since you started and it's not as bad.
i sweat so much more during these workouts than i ever have before.
casey sweat like a maniac during it, and that was super gross.
we were always so exhausted, but good exhausted, after the workouts which helped keep us going.
the first month is about a 40 min workout 6 days a week: TOTALLY DOABLE
don't get me wrong, it was still hard, but the really hard part of the workout was only 20ish min.
the 2nd month is about a 60 min workout 6 days a week: still doable but it kicks your butt and is so hard.
6 days a week going hard each day is so tiring.
the last 2 weeks were hard mentally because by that point, we DID want to be done with program, but weren't.
but we made it to the end!
hooray!

here's casey's before and after

i would post my before and afters but you literally can't see a difference with all my clothes and i just look silly,
ha, so i'll just spare us all.
but i did slim down a little and tone up a little.
i'm so glad we did it!

i would definitely recommend doing trying out insanity post-baby to start back into working out.
reasons:
a. you can do it by yourself at home so you don't have to be self conscious of your strength level in front of others etc, though there's still an instructor pushing you
b. it's a smooth transition to working out your abs again since there's no crunches anywhere but you still get a good ab workout through other movements
c. you can workout around your baby's sleeping schedule and not have to worry about going anywhere.
d. there's like 10 different discs/routines so he workouts get switched up.
e. even if you're not post-baby, it's SUCH a good workout program!!

let me know if any of you decide to do this!!

finally, a step in the right direction

if you know me very well,
you know that i've been dying to be a group fitness instructor at a gym for years now.
i know i can do it.
i pretty much already have with kimberobics the past year or so.
friends tell me i should all the time.
i've had lots of experience with it with classes i've taken, dance workouts, track workouts, etc.
i just been telling myself i can't really find the time to do it or
they probably don't have room for me or
i have no inside connections with a gym or
all that nonsense

today i finally did something about it
i went into the provo gold's gym and asked how to become a group fitness instructor!

but then they told me i have to go to the orem gym where the corporate office is.
boo.

but i'm doing something about it and i am so happy!
i want to start getting paid to workout while having fun!!!!!!!

PLUS! tonight after that whole thing i was looking around at my old gym's schedule online (they have the best classes and schedule! so many i LOVE  it!) and there was the name Kimber for an instructor for a class! i've seen Kim, Kimm, Kimmy, and Kimberly before but never Kimber! my little heart jumped for joy! it's possible! one kimber can do it! i can totally do it! i am now determined to see my name as an instructor for a class on a piece of paper. you watch friends, one day soon, and i mean SOON, it's going to happen!

goal to self: tomorrow, drive to the orem office and start training to do it :)
